R. Balasubramaniam

This paper argues that the original location of the famous Delhi Iron Pillar was Udayagiri (not far from Bhopal), and examines the pillar’s astronomical significance at that location.

Dr. R. Balasubramaniam is a professor of metallurgy at IIT-Kanpur who has specialized in the early history of metal in India, especially iron. He is well known for his pioneering work on the precise process of fabrication that has protected from rust the Delhi Iron Pillar and several of its kind for over 1,500 years.
